Wallenberg Academy Program in Mathematics

The Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation has in collaboration with the Academy started a program to support Swedish research in mathematics. The aim is for Sweden to regain a position at the international cutting edge by giving the best young researchers international experience and recruiting both young and more experienced mathematicians to Sweden.

As part of the initiative, three research programs are launched: one post-doc program for young researchers going abroad, one post-doc program for recruiting young foreign researchers to Sweden, and one visiting scholar program for foreign researchers.

The joint platform and hub for this initiative will be the Academy’s research institute Institut Mittag-Leffler in Stockholm. The institute plays a key role for Swedish mathematics and is considered to be one of the top ten in the world.

Postdoctoral Scholarship Program in Mathematics for researchers with a Swedish doctors degree

Young researchers with a Swedish doctoral degree can apply for a two-year grant for conducting research abroad with the possibility of receiving funding for a two-year long repatriation position upon return to a Swedish university.

Postdoctoral Scholarship Program in Mathematics for researchers from outside Sweden

Senior researchers in Sweden are encouraged to apply for funding towards a two-year long post-doc position in their research group. The senior researcher may, upon approval of the application, advertise and appoint the position in collaboration with their university or seat of learning. The application shall be submitted by the nominating institution.

Program for guest professors

The program creates an opportunity for up to five foreign, academically established researchers in the field of mathematics to spend 1-12 months at a Swedish academic institution. Nominations for the visiting scholar program can be submitted by researchers with permanent positions in Sweden, including heads of department, directors of research institutes, university management and similar staff.

Application/nomination period

Application/nomination shall be submitted at the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation website. The Academy’s class for mathematics are responsible for the review process and a list of successful applicants are published on the Academy’s and the Foundations’ websites.
