Twelve new members elected to the Academy

At the General Meeting on 15 December a total of twelve prominent researchers were elected to the classes for mathematics, chemistry, geosciences, biosciences and engineering sciences.

Class for mathematics

Anna-Karin Tornberg is Associate Professor of Numerical Analysis at the School of Computer Science and Communication, KTH Royal Institute of Technology. 

Tobias Ekholm is Professor of Mathematics at the Department of Mathematics, Uppsala University.

Class for chemistry

Villy Sundström is Professor of Chemical Physics at the Department of Chemistry, Lund University.

Peter Somfai is Professor of Organic Chemistry at the School of Chemical Science and Engineering, KTH Royal Institute of Technology.

Mikael Oliveberg is Professor of Biochemsitry at the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics, Stockholm University.

Class for geosciences

Deliang Chen is August Röhss Professor of Physical Geography and Professor of Physical Meteorology at the Department of Earth Sciences, University of Gothenburg, and Executive Director for International Council for Science (ICSU).

Johan Kleman is Professor of Remote Sensing at the Department of Physical Geography and Quaternary Geology, Stockholm University.

Class for biosciences

Hans Ellegren is Professor of  Evolutionary Biology and Head of Department of Evolutionary Biology at Department of Ecology and Genetics, Uppsala University.

Bill Hansson is Professor of Chemical Ecology and Director of the Department of Evolutionary Neuroethology at Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology, Jena, Germany.

Kerstin Johannesson is Professor of Marine Ecology at the Department of Marine Ecology, University of Gothenburg and Director of the Linnaeus Research Centre in Marine Evolutionary Biology (CeMEB).

Class for engineering sciences

Thomas Laurell is Professor of Medical and Chemical Microsensors at the Department of Measurement Technology and Industrial Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Lund University.

Krister Holmberg is Professor of Applied Surface Chemistry at the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, Chalmers University of Technology.
