By initiative of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences’ environmental committee, a new report on marine pollution is now released. It comprises both a research assessment and implementation plan on acidification and related anthropogenic stress factors in Swedish coastal waters from a wide multidisciplinary perspective.
The report is based on two national symposia held at the Academy and an additional workshop. The situation is considerably more complicated in coastal waters than in the open ocean, but the ecosystem is also more adapted to this. In addition to the scientific conditions, the connection to decision-making processes and society’s social structures are also highlighted.
