Last Friday, it was announced that no Nobel Prize in Literature will be awarded this year. The Swedish Academy that is responsible for this prize has been in much turmoil recently, and declares that the decision had been made due to a lack of public confidence.
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences is a separate and independent Nobel Prize awarding body, and it is not involved in the problems the Swedish Academy is facing. Our prize committees are continuing their important work to evaluate the candidates for this year’s Nobel Prizes in Physics and Chemistry, as well as for the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel. Those prizes will be announced in early October, as usual.
