Tobias contracted aplastic anaemia at an early age and died when he was only 17 in 1991. After his death his family initiated a foundation in his name with the aim of “supporting the establishment and maintenance of a Swedish bone-marrow register and supporting research in this field”. The Foundation was established in 1992 and has as its patron Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden.
The Foundation's activities are financed by donations from companies, organizations and not least private individuals.
