"to promote the sciences and strengthen their influence in society"

Tobias Prize

The Tobias Foundation established the Tobias Prize in 2008. It consists of a personal prize of SEK 100,000 and a research grant of SEK 2 million per annum for five years. Its main aim is to give the laureate the means to carry out high-class research concerning problems of importance for cell therapy in hematological (blood-related) disorders.

Nominating and awarding

Medical faculties and professors of medicine within the Nordic countries, as well as previous laureates, are invited to nominate candidates for the prize during the spring. It is a presupposition that the laureate will continue to receive his or her salary from the faculty. The candidates nominated will themselves submit complete documentation, which will be passed on to a prize committee appointed by the Academy's Class for medical sciences. In turn, the committee will receive advice from external experts.

The final decision is taken by the Academy in pleno and the prize is presented the following spring.
