Abisko Scientific Research Station transferred
On 1 December 2010 the Abisko Scientific Research Station was transferred to the Swedish Polar Research Secretariat. The station has been managed by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences since 1935, but the first field station was established as early as 1903.
It started with meteorological observations and measuring of snow depth and the ice on Lake Torneträsk. Today the research focuses mostly on monitoring, experimenting and scientific modelling on environmental and climate change.
The station has about 500 Swedish and international scientific visitors every year, as well as extensive education and many symposia and other scientific meetings.
