General announcement for Engineering sciences

Available funding 2014: 700 000 SEK.

Closing date for applications: 31 August 2014.

Scholarships up to a SEK 100,000 maximum will be allocated to PhD students.  Postdoctoral researchers who gained their PhDs in 2007 or later will be allocated to SEK 300,000, payable for a maximum of one year.

Special requirements in 2014

Of the available funds 200 000 SEK are for scholarships for practical engineering studies abroad. The applicants has to be Swedish citizens, maximum 30 years old, possess knowledge in any of the English, German or French languages, and have the theoretical knowledge and practical experience in their branch of engineering.

The remaining 500 000 SEK are for scholarships for studies in engineering, including structural engineering and especially shipbuilding. The applicant has to be a Swedish citizen and has to be not younger than 25 years and not older than 40 years.

Scholarships are not granted for conferences or projects already completed when the decision is made, which takes places about three months after the application deadline. 

The institutes of The Royal Swedish Academy of Scineces can apply for a two-year grant of up to SEK 600,000 for the purpose of researcher recruitment. This grant is applied for by the director of the institute concerned. An application of this kind may be submitted every two years.

Rules for PhD students and researchers
A link to the application site is provided below. In the system, the user can create an account, enter personal particulars and upload the requisite annexes in electronic form. Finally, the user shall print out a form, sign it, get it attested by the head of the institute concerned and send it to the address specified on the form. Please note that you must submit the application electronically first, before you can print out the form for signing. The form must have arrived to the Academy no later than 7 days after the closing date.

When the application for Engineering sciences is created, it will be called Engineering sciences14.

Rules for the institutes of The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences
A link to the web-based application system is provided below. In the system, the user can create an account, enter the institute’s particulars and upload the application annexes in electronic form. Finally, the user shall print out a form, get it signed by the head of the institute and send it to the address specified on the form. Please note that the application must be submitted electronically first, before it can be printed out for signing. The form must have arrived to the Academy no later than 7 days after the closing date.

Supplementary material submitted separately, incomplete applications and/or faxed or emailed applications will not be considered. Application documents will not be returned.

Allocation

About three months after the application period ends, all applicants can see, through their web accounts, which applicants have been successful. During the application process, applicants can also see the progress of their applications. Only applicants who are awarded Scholarships or grants will be contacted in writing by the Academy.
