"to promote the sciences and strengthen their influence in society"
About the academy
International cooperation
The academy serves as an international scientific forum. A reference group for international issues supports the secretariat in managing international activities.
Sweden is represented by the Academy in a number of international organisations. The International Council for Science, ICSU, combines many non-state scientific associations. ICSU’s numerous global research programmes include The International Geosphere Biosphere Programme, IGBP, with its international secretariat at the Academy. The Academy houses a large number of national committees belonging to the various ICSU discipline-oriented unions.
The Academy participates actively in other organisations and associations, of which many of the world’s academies, research councils and similar bodies are members. At meetings and through other continuous contacts, strategies for global issues such as sustainable environmental development, energy-saving and consumption and distribution are deliberated. Globally important ethical problems and great-risk issues are discussed and active plans are developed.
